Our Secret To Patient-Centered Physical Therapy: We Listen

Some care providers listen to a patient on average for just 11 seconds before interrupting and taking the conversation over.

That’s why we aren’t just average care providers.

The Physical Therapists at Kinetic Physical Therapy listen so that we can create individualized, patient-centered care that gets you back to doing exactly what it is that you want to do.

If knee pain is stopping you from playing sports, we listen so that we can create an individualized plan that gets you back on the fields and courts.

If back pain is keeping you off of the job, we listen so that we can create an individualized plan that gets you back to work.

If hip pain is keeping you from running around with the kids or grandkids, we listen so that we can create an individualized plan that gets you back to everything parenthood has to offer.

For us, stopping pain is only the first step. Deep down, we want to know what your it is, so we can get you back to it.

And the only way to do that is to listen. Which is why care providers at Kinetic Physical Therapy aren’t your average care providers.

Patient-centered care, focused on listening, starts the moment you get in touch with Kinetic Physical therapy or walk in our doors

A patient care coordinator will review your insurance with diligence to address any questions or concerns you have over costs, fees, rules, and regulations.

Then, a physical therapist will ask you about any pain or physical ailments you’re experiencing -- and listen to the answer. It’s a critical first step in understanding how not just how to stop the pain, but how to get you back to your it.

Next is a full movement examination where a physical therapist examines and learns about the condition, how it is affecting you, and how it may be preventing you from what you want to do.

Finally, our physical therapist, fully informed by listening to the patient and their goals, creates a care plan. The plan not only aims to eliminate current pain or limitations, but emphasizes education so that patients can care for themselves after visits to our offices end.

At every step from insurance, to intake, to the initial examination, to treatment, and beyond, Kinetic will listen and strive to help you take care of yourself as well as Kinetic takes care of you.

It’s the surest way of getting you back to your it, and keeping you back at it.

It All Starts With Listening

It’s impossible to create patient-centered care without listening to the patient.

A study published in the General Journal of Internal Medicine analyzed 112 provider-patient conversations and found that when patients described their reasons for visiting, providers listened for an average of only 11 seconds before interrupting.

Even if the providers asked the patient to describe their reasons for visiting, the interruption came on average 11 seconds later. And the study also found that only one third of the providers even asked questions that let the patient guide the conversation.

At Kinetic Physical Therapy, we’re committed to being much better listeners -- throughout every step of the patient experience.

Our patients often tell us that our physical therapists were the first care providers to actually listen to them. To us it feels like not just common courtesy, but the best way to help the patient.

That’s why we listen at every step of the way. We listen to your concerns. We listen as you describe your pain or limitations. We listen to your goals.

And the result is patient-centered care that gets you back on the fields and courts, back to work, back playing with the kids -- the reasons that brought you to Kinetic Physical Therapy in the first place.
