Letter of Recommendation for Kinetic Physical Therapy
I had total knee replacement in August 2007. I contacted Kinetic immediately following my surgery and had my initial consultation with Angelo one week after surgery and I started Physical Therapy immediately.
Prior to that point I had been bone on bone for almost 15 years. Before my surgery I had been in a lot of pain, on a lot of medication and my activity level had been seriously reduced and was decreasing rapidly. At the time of my Physical Therapy consultation I was full of fear and anxiety that my knee would never be able to function normally again. The years of pain and discomfort had slowly worn me and my resolve to a very low point and I was only sure of one thing and that was that I wanted my knee to recover and I wanted my active life back. I did not know how to get from where I was to that point of recovery. I am an old broken athlete who still had the resolve to compete but I knew I could not do it alone.
This is where the team at Kinetic came in. I immediately found an atmosphere of support, congeniality, and expertise that made coming to PT both a challenge and in a twisted sort of way fun. Every day we commiserated about football teams and pain thresholds… range of motion and baseball teams…PT reports to my doctor and whether I was going to be able to deer hunt in the fall. My exercise routine developed over time and after over a month of improvement I hit a wall and progress stalled. Consultation between my surgeon and my Physical Therapist resulted in a non-surgical procedure being done that catapulted me to new heights of physical performance, range of motion and strength. The joys and exultation that I began to feel was shared by the team at Kinetic and I started to see a light at the end of the tunnel. PT sessions morphed into work outs like I used to do and I felt alive and vital again and the Kinetic team shared in the success.
It is important to note that the success I experience through Kinetic is more than the technical process of restoring a body… first you do this, then you do that. The process at this business is a shared experience between the patients and the staff. There is a synergy available at Kinetic that, although not every patient shares in or accesses, was a large part of my motivation to heal and to never miss a session and be supportive to my peers as they came and went. Call it esprit d’corps or group dynamics. There is a feeling that staff, interns, and patients are in this together that makes coming to PT an important part of the day. It has been vital to the restoration of portion of my life that I am proud of.
The healing I have done to my body while working with Kinetic staff has revitalized the healing work that I do professionally with a risk adolescent. I didn’t know if it was ever going to be that way again when I had my knee replaced. I am confident now that I am habilitating my knee by living my life and doing my work. The fear, anxiety and pain were all part of a process that was actualized in a supportive, professional and enjoyable atmosphere with Darren, Chris, Angelo and their staff. I challenged Angelo in the original consultation to push me through the pain and frustration that I brought with me when I came to him with 30 staples in my knee. I told him that I wasn’t there for the conversation but to get my knee back and my life and not to pussyfoot around with me. He didn’t.
The conversation wasn’t bad either and the relationships and fun was a great side benefit.
Best Regards,
David S.
